The ODSSBC Ecosystem
Under ODSSBC’s leadership, each service operates with mission-driven autonomy while sharing a unified philosophy of accessibility, peer sovereignty, and unstructured participation. Together, they form a holistic support network that addresses social connection, behaviour understanding, digital advocacy, community belonging, and professional education.
Crosswinds Behaviour Support operates on the principle that behaviour is communication, not compliance. Through its FAST (Fast and Specific behaviour Targeting) framework, Crosswinds delivers precision interventions that address root causes in real time, co-regulate distress, and empower individuals to navigate their environments with greater autonomy. It moves away from punitive or prescriptive models, focusing instead on context-aware support that respects neurological and sensory diversity. Its mission is clear: Changing behaviour. Friday Firefly serves as a vibrant, low-threshold social intervention designed for adults with behavioural challenges. Operating on a drop-in basis, it offers video and board games, karaoke, sports, and structured monthly self-advocacy meetings. By prioritizing joy, flexibility, and peer interaction, Friday Firefly creates a welcoming environment where participation is self-directed and community bonds are naturally fostered.
Peers Being Peers centers lived experience as the foundation of support. This peer-led network hosts open listening circles, mentorship matching, and practical skill-sharing sessions that emphasize mutual aid over professional intervention. By honoring shared journeys, validating personal narratives, and fostering resilience through connection, the program embodies its guiding truth: Shoring hope. Honouring experience.
SelfAdvocateNet is a fully accessible digital platform that equips individuals with the tools to navigate systems, assert their rights, and connect with peers. Featuring discussion forums, secure messaging, collaborative spaces for co-creation, and a searchable document library, SelfAdvocateNet removes digital barriers while amplifying community voices. Users can share strategies, request accommodations, and access plain-language guides at their own pace. It exists to empower change from the inside out, living its promise: Raising voices. Kumira launched in 2026 as an unstructured experience platform that dismantles rigid program boundaries. It invites disabled individuals to engage with their communities through spontaneous, self-paced interactions—whether that’s a neighborhood repair workshop, a digital storytelling circle, or an informal gathering. By removing prerequisites, attendance logs, and prescriptive timelines, Kumira embraces organic participation and community-driven rhythm. It offers exactly what its users need: The space to be you.
Unlocking Connections is ODSSBC’s annual online education and conference series, hosted every year online on MS Teams. Featuring live keynotes, breakout workshops, and on-demand archives transcripts, the event brings together practitioners, advocates, educators, and disabled individuals to co-create strategies for inclusion.
